Dr. S. Venkata Mohan is a Principal Scientist in Environmental Engineering at CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology. He received his B.Tech. (1991), M.Tech. (1993) and PhD (1998) with Civil/Environmental Engineering as specialization from Sri Venkatsewara University, Tirupati. His main research interests are in the domain of Environmental Bioengineering and Biofuels specifically in the areas of Biohydrogen, Bio-electrochemical systems, Waste Biorefinery, Advance Treatment Methods, Biobased products and photosynthetic fuels. He has authored about 290 research articles, 30 chapters for books and has 8 patents. His publications have so far received more than 8900 citations, and have an h-index of 51 (Google Scholar). He has guided 19 PhDs., 2 M.Phils and more than 90 M.Tech./B.Tech./M.Sc. students.
He is the recipient of coveted ‘Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar (SSB) Prize’ for the year 2014 in Engineering Sciences. He also received several awards and honours, such as ‘National Bioscience award-2012’ by DBT, Government of India, ‘Prosper.net-Scopus Young Researcher Award in Sustainable Development -2010’ under Energy Category by United Nations University and Elsevier, ‘NASI-Scopus Young Scientist Award- 2010’ in Earth, Oceanographic & Environmental Sciences by NASI and Elsevier, Nawab Zain Yar Jung Bahadur Memorial Prize-1994 by The Institution of Engineers (India), etc.
He worked as Visiting Professor at Kyoto University (2005) and Alexander von Humboldt (AvH) Fellow at Technical University of Munich, Germany (2001-02).
Dr Mohan is elected fellow of National Academy of Engineering (FNAE), Biotech Research Society of India (FBRSI), Andhra Pradesh Akademy of Sciences (FAPASc), Institution of Engineers (FIEI), etc. and Member of European Academy of Sciences and Arts. Dr Mohan is subject Editor for the Journal of Energy, Associate Editor for Frontiers in Environmental Science and Frontiers in Energy Research and is serving on editorial board of several journals viz., Bioresource Technology, The Open Waste Management, Advances in Energy Research, etc. Dr Mohan is on the reviewing committees of several journals published by RSC, Elsevier, CSIR, Frontier, Taylors, Wiley, ACS, ASCE, Springer, etc. and professional societies. Dr.Mohan is working on research projects funded by MNRE, DBT, DST-EU and CSIR and has carried out various industrial and consultancy projects in the area of environment and management.
