Sophie van den Berg is a Solid Waste Expert and Recycling Business Developer at WASTE. She has more than 30 years of international experience in assessment of solid waste management systems, economic and environmental viability analysis of resource recovery systems, and marketing studies for recovered materials. She has the expertise in private sector development: implementation, financing, and organisation of productive micro-projects in solid waste management including training for income generating activities aimed at small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Other experience include business development of (plastic) waste recycling plants, participatory planning, environmental sustainability, and gender equality, in emerging and developing countries.
She is always in search and up-to-date for innovative technologies in (plastic) recycling which can be used in low- and middle-income countries. She is passionate in connecting people, companies, and organisations to advance the field of business development of waste recycling enterprises towards sustainability.
