The webinar takes the climate potential of the waste sector as its starting point to examine what credible, Africa-appropriate solutions ought to be and what African governments, cities, civil society, and development partners should prioritize as they prepare for COP31 and subsequent implementation phases.

It places special emphasis on methane reduction, food loss and waste, the recovery of organic waste, source separation, and circular systems, while also critically examining waste-to-energy incineration and other high-risk methods that might be promoted as ‘climate solutions.
