There is an overload of food waste initiatives, but which are the ones which create impact? This webinar is going to discuss how a food waste initiative can create impact.

Toine Timmermans, Program Manager Circular Economy, Wageningen University & Research and Director, SamenTegenVoedselverspilling (Food Waste Free United)

Toine Timmermans is Program Manager Circular Economy in Food at Wageningen University & Research, and Coordinator of the EU projects FUSIONS and REFRESH. The overall aim of the project REFRESH is to contribute to SDG 12.3, halving food loss and food waste across the post-harvest supply chain. A central ambition of the REFRESH project is to develop and implement National ‘Framework for Action’ models, based on strategic agreements across all stages of the supply chain, delivered through collaborative working and supported by evidence-based tools to allow targeted, cost effective interventions. National platforms are piloted in Germany, Spain, Hungary, the Netherlands and China. After a successful launch of the Dutch platform in 2017, Toine is since 2019 the managing Director of the Dutch foundation United Against Food Waste, the National private-public partnership with the ambition to half food waste in the Netherlands in 2030

Chris Cochran, Executive Director, ReFED

In his role as Executive Director, Chris provides strategic oversight to the entire ReFED organization and all program areas. Previously, Chris was the Senior Manager of Sustainability at Walmart where he developed a farm to consumer view of food waste while leading sustainability for Walmart’s global produce business. Chris developed a first-of-its-kind food waste analysis for Walmart US that resulted in food waste reduction and donation opportunities that put the company on track to achieve its public commitments to cut food waste in half and donate four billion meals. Chris’s experience with tackling food waste from multiple points in the value chain helps ReFED bring together new collaborators on food system challenges.
