Barbara Herridge

External Relations, North London Waste Authority

Barbara Herridge is responsible for External Relations at North London Waste Authority (NLWA), which includes both communications and waste prevention teams. The work of the NLWA External Relations team supplements the collection authorities’ (London borough councils) activity in encouraging the 1.9 million residents of north London to reduce, reuse and recycle more. Barbara has worked in the waste industry for approximately 25 years, focussing on communications and behavioural change with businesses and consumers. She has been involved in resident liaison work with those living in the vicinity of operational and planned new waste management facilities, including as part of community liaison groups. The most recent project on which she has been working is the North London Heat and Power Project (NLHPP), which is NLWA’s proposal to replace its existing energy from waste plant with a new energy recovery facility in 2025. To date the project has included two phases of public consultation for which Barbara has led on delivering presentations to local community groups and residents.
