Carl A. Zimring is Associate Professor of Sustainability Studies at the Pratt Institute. He is author of the books Cash for Your Trash: Scrap Recycling in America (Rutgers UP, 2005), Clean and White: A History of Environmental Racism in the United States (NYU Press, 2015), and the forthcoming Aluminum Upcycled: Sustainable Design in Historical Perspective (Johns Hopkins UP, 2017). He is also general editor of Encyclopedia of Consumption and Waste: The Social Science of Garbage (Sage, 2012) and author of several articles on the history of how humans define and manage waste.
