Reducing Global Consumption – What Matters More: Government, People or Businesses?

Global warming is very real no matter where you are on Planet Earth, and we are running out of time to change our ways. Decarbonisation solutions, programmes and innovations are developing, but they must accelerate at a faster rate and soon and even then, will they be enough to reverse society’s impact on our environment? For all the progress being made on technological solutions, downstream management and boosting recycling in particular it would seem that the missing element in current political thinking is the need to change what we consume, how we consume and why we consume it! If we are serious about meeting a Net Zero carbon future then we must address our consumption patterns and habits and look to drive newer economic systems that are not reliant on ownership but on leasing, that facilitate better product design to ensure repair, reuse and refurbishment as the new norm, and that incentivise people to make the right choices. In this webinar we will reflect on which actors can make the biggest impact in driving forward a new programme of activity that will help drive down resource consumption without impacting our global well-being and economic systems, what policies and opportunities could help make resource consumption reduction a reality and where are the beacons of best practice that we can look to and learn from?
